2-SEC PEN TESTING / MOBILE

Mobile App Penetration Testing: Jailbreak Their Assumptions Before Someone Else Does.

Manual, adversarial testing of your iOS and Android apps — insecure storage, weak transport, tampering and backend authorisation gaps exploited on real, rooted and jailbroken devices. NCSC CHECK-certified testers.

The problem

Your app store listing is an attack brief.

A published binary can be downloaded, decompiled and instrumented by anyone. Every secret embedded in the app, every trust decision made on the device and every assumption your API makes about "the official client" is available to a patient adversary.

The device is a hostile environment

Rooted and jailbroken devices, Frida hooks and traffic proxies let an attacker bypass certificate pinning, defeat local checks and observe exactly what your app does with your data.

Secrets in the binary don't survive

API keys, third-party credentials and hardcoded tokens are recoverable from any distributed app. If your backend trusts them, so can an attacker.

Scans stop at the manifest

Automated tools flag known library versions and missing flags. The flaws that hurt — client-side trust abuse, session handling gaps, weak re-authentication on sensitive actions — need a human adversary.

The mobile attack surface, in numbers

Your app carries your customers — and your risk.

Mobile apps hold session tokens, personal data and payment flows in an environment you don't control. The flaws that dominate are the kind a careful manual test finds first.

What is mobile app penetration testing?

A real adversary's campaign against your app and its backend — not a manifest scan.

Mobile app penetration testing is a controlled security assessment in which qualified testers analyse and attack iOS and Android applications, their local storage, communications and backend interactions to uncover exploitable weaknesses that could expose data, sessions or sensitive functions.

Device-Aware

Tests applications in hostile device conditions, including rooted and jailbroken environments where local controls can be manipulated.

Data-Focused

Examines storage, caches, logs, keychains and transport paths for credentials, tokens and sensitive information that should remain protected.

Tamper-Resistant

Challenges certificate pinning, anti-tamper controls, client-side trust and instrumentation defences the way a determined attacker would.

Backend-Connected

Tests the APIs and services behind the app because mobile security depends on what the server trusts, not just what the binary contains.

Mobile penetration testing puts a certified human attacker at your app — decompiling the binary, instrumenting it on rooted and jailbroken devices, intercepting its traffic and attacking the backend APIs it relies on. The goal is to prove what actually hurts: extracted session tokens, bypassed biometric checks, replayable transactions, cross-user data exposure.

Our CHECK-certified testers work from the same mindset as a real adversary: map what the app trusts, abuse what it assumes, and prove impact — can a hooked device bypass local authorisation? Does a revoked session still work offline? Can the app's traffic be replayed against your API without the app at all?

The result is a report written for decisions: every finding with an attack chain, business impact, severity you can defend, and remediation your developers can implement.

As a UK provider working under the NCSC CHECK scheme, our testing is recognised across UK government, financial services and regulated industries — and maps directly to Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, UK GDPR, DORA and NIS2 obligations.

Scanning vs. penetration testing

A scanner reads your manifest. A penetration tester reads your app the way a hostile device does — and finds the trust assumptions no static check will ever flag.

Why 2|SEC

Automation reads the manifest. We break the app.

01

Data storage first

We audit app sandboxes, keychains, logs, backups and caches for tokens, PII and credentials that survive where they shouldn't.

02

Manual, certified testers

NCSC CHECK-certified professionals instrument your app by hand on rooted Android and jailbroken iOS devices — with the judgment to spot what a scanner scores as noise but an attacker scores as a way in.

03

iOS and Android, both covered

Platform-specific weaknesses — Android exported components and cleartext traffic, iOS pasteboard leakage and keychain handling — tested on each.

04

Tampering & bypass

SSL pinning defeat, root/jailbreak detection evasion, Frida instrumentation, repackaging and anti-tamper assessment — the attacks your app will actually face.

05

Developer-ready fixes

Every finding ships with the reproduction, the code-level cause and the concrete fix — written so your team can reproduce, understand and close it without a call.

06

Retesting included

Fixes often introduce new flaws. We re-verify every remediation against the original attack chains at no extra cost — so your report ends clean, not half-patched.

Choose your target

Mobile is one front. We test wherever your business is exposed.

Every engagement follows the same business-first process — scoped precisely to the systems that matter to your P&L.

How we work

From binary to a report your board can act on.

Six phases, from scoping through to ongoing assurance. Every phase is documented, every finding is actionable.

01

Scoping & pre-test

We inventory your app builds, backend endpoints and authentication flows, agree test devices, builds and environments, and set the rules of engagement — so testing never collides with your production users.

02

Testing

Manual adversarial testing against the OWASP MASVS and Mobile Top 10: storage and keychain analysis, transport security, tampering and instrumentation, session handling and backend authorisation — chained into real attack paths.

03

Reporting

Every finding written as an attack chain — the technique, the data or privilege reached, the business consequence — with reproduction steps, evidence, MASVS mapping and a fix your developers can act on. Reports land within 5 working days.

04

Remediation

We stay with your developers — by call or on-site — reviewing patches, advising on architecture and confirming each fix closes the flaw rather than redirecting it.

05

Retesting

We replay the full attack chains, not just the individual findings — because a patched flow is worthless if the same flaw survives on a sibling path.

06

Continuous assurance Optional

Apps ship weekly. We re-test on your release cadence — every sprint, month or quarter — so new builds arrive tested, not untested.
